I *guess* I am Giving Up TV for Lent

  • Biggest Loser
  • Lie To Me
  • Off The Map
  • The Best Thing I Ever Ate
  • Cupcake Wars
  • Cake Boss
  • The Office
  • Amazing Race
  • CSI Miami
  • NCIS

…These are some of my favorite TV shows. I seemingly watch WAY too much TV.  Even when I DVR my favorite shows and bypass the commercials, I am spending HOURS “relaxing” and watching TV.

All together, the above shows are over 10 hours in length, and these are just the start of what I end up watching in a week.

I’d like this sacrifice to draw me closer to God, but I also realize there will be side-benefits.

Maybe Chris and I will spend more quality time together. I ♥ him and quality time with him – but when I’m tired and just want to veg, this will be a challenge.

I tend to turn on the TV when I feed the baby on the couch. Nursing can be pretty boring – don’t get me wrong, I ♥ the bonding, but 30 minutes times 6-8 times a day is a lot of time to just SIT THERE.  My adjustment during this time, so I don’t just fill it with dinking around on Facebook, will be to listen to Christian audio books, podcasts and music.

So, no TV, no Hulu, and no substituting massive amounts of TV with another vice.

See you on the flip-side.

Lent

2011 Lent starts Wednesday, the 9th of March and will continue for 46 days until Saturday, the 23rd of April.

I found a great, short article on why some Christians give up things for lent. You can read it all here – but the jest of it is that we give up something for 40 days to remember Christ’s sacrifice for us. The 40 days should be spent focused on seeking Him.
