Yes, I said ‘organic’ & ‘birthday cake’ in the same sentence.
I am DEFINITELY from the school of thought that fruit doesn’t count as dessert just because it’s sweet. Chocolate is dessert. SUGAR is dessert. There’s a time and a place for everything.
Birthdays are an occasion for a real dessert.
Just as firmly, I feel that buying organic ingredients is the way to go.
Not to be “fancy” or “complicated” (or a hippie, snob or whatever) but to actually be healthier.
I spent 40 weeks of pregnancy eating as healthy as possible. I went through FIVE different prenatal vitamins to find the BEST ones possible that didn’t make me sick.
I read Master Your Metabolism by Jillian Michaels.
Yes, I am a fan of Food, Inc.
Once Little Dude was born, I continued my organic eating credo and insist he eats organic foods.
Some people “get it” while others just roll their eyes and wonder why we don’t just buy the cheap baby food and save some money.
The bottom line is that I’ve done the research and have decided buying local and organic whenever possible (not just when it is convenient) is the healthiest decision. Short term & long term.
So yes, I’m going to bake an organic cake for Little Dude’s birthday. I think organic can sometimes be confused with tasteless and diet-food.
It’s been my experience that organic fruits & veggies taste better than non-organics (hmmm, maybe as they were intended to taste). So I’m curious if organic flour & sugar tastes better?
Anyways, back on subject: organic 1st birthday cake recipe… I am searching for a good one! I’m open on most flavors. Something light and sweet. And in case you didn’t catch the first part of this post: fruit isn’t dessert. So there will be no fruit chunks in this boy’s birthday cake. I am fine with using applesauce in it to make it less dry (we live in Colorado) but I am looking for a REAL dessert recipe.
