If you are looking for a “before” picture, sorry. It’s not going to happen. Maybe after a victorious “after” picture is available, I will consider it.
But I will say I have never been at this weight (outside of pregnancy) before. When I got pregnant with our first, I was 23 pounds lighter than I am today.
I gained 35ish pounds with our first son and steadily lost 25 pounds within about a year. The final 10 pounds seemed to stick around until I stopped breastfeeding (when our son was 18 months old), but shortly after I was diagnosed with stage 1 melanoma. You’d think having cancer would make you lose weight, but the stress hormones did me no favor.
Happy and beyond thankful to be alive, I was complacent with being +10 pounds when we got pregnant with our second son. I was sick the first four months of that pregnancy and finally started to gain weight after the 16 week mark. Little Brother was breech, so I had a c-section at 39 weeks. I gained 25ish pounds with him.
The first 13 pounds came off quickly but now at 10 weeks postpartum, my weight loss stopped. I am exclusively breastfeeding and know that my body burns approximately 20 calories per ounce of milk I produce. So if Little Brother breastfeeds and get 24 ounces of milk in a day, I’ll burn an extra 480 calories. In turn, I need 480 extra calories a day… but, yes, I do want to take off the extra baby weight.
Instead of cutting back on food, I am adding exercise. In the past I have done more strenuous workout programs not entirely successfully. I either injured myself or got adrenal fatigue. Weight loss was minimal.
I’ve finally learned my body (and everyone IS different) does much better with a moderate program.
A group of church friends and I are doing the Bikini Body Mommy Challenge together. Here’s why it appeals to me:
- 90 days long
- it’s free on YouTube
- I’m able to do it at home (during the boys’ naptime!)
- each workout is about 20 minutes long
- BBM lady needs to lose weight, just like me!
- she previously lost weight (between babies) with her own program
So, I will be posting my progress here and on Instagram.
